KEA
The sea at Kea is crystal clear,
the beaches are wonderful and the taverns are traditional Greek.
This exceptionally
picturesque island lies 15 miles from the south-east coast of
Attica. It is also known as Tzia and this name is a remainder
of the Venetian era. The mountain masses, which are encountered
in most of the Cyclades, are broken up by small valleys sparsely
planted with vines and fruit-trees and run right down
to the sea, opening out into pretty little bays. The interior
of the island is dotted with miniature chapels, windmills
and monasteries, including that of Panagia Kastriani, Kea's
patron saint. Many villages are samples of the Cycladic architecture.
Otzia, Panagia Kastriani, Pisses are only few of the locations
that you'll never forget. Other worth mentioned villages are
Vourkari, a typical fishermen village near Korissia, Katomeria,
Parameria etc.

PLACES
TO MOOR
Ag. Nikolaos - There are three places to tie the one
is Ormos Livadhi which is the south arm of the bay. North winds
cause a swell so you might want to anchor off in the bay. The
second is Vourkari which is located on the NE arm of the bay.
If you choose to tie here on the quay make sure you have a secure
anchor as the meltemi blows straight up on the quay. This area
is the most popular for yachts as there is water and provisioning
available. The third choice is the old coal bunkering depot
in the N arm of the bay this offers good shelter from North
winds.
Ormos Pisa - Located on the west coast. This is a fairly
protected cove a nice place for a swim. There are no facilities
available.
Ormos Kavia - This bay offers good shelter from the meltemi.
The bay has houses a few hotels. If you need anything Manos'
tavern can provide you with provisions, gas, fuel , ice and
showers.
Ormos Polias - This bay is located SE of Kea. You should
anchor to the E of the islet. There are a few ancient ruins
and the remains of a temple ashore which make for a nice afternoon
walk.
