The island of Corsica is located off the coast of both France and Italy and is made up of two French departments: Haute Corse (upper Corsica) and Corse du Sud (South Corsica). The island is approximately 8720 sq kilometres in size, with a vast coastline of 620 miles. Corsica is mountainous, the highest point being Monte Cintu at 2710 metres and the average altitude is 2710 metres. The terrain is varied with mountains, sandy beaches and hidden coves. It is almost certainly the least ‘spoiled’ coastline of France.
